The Libro Nook

Bringing special education closer to Latino mothers, through speaking engagements and guides in Spanish.

The Libro Nook is an area of Andrea Amosson's work and life dedicated to providing resources in Spanish for the Latino population residing in the United States with children who have special needs, diagnoses, and different abilities.

The Libro Nook's mission is to bridge the gap in the availability of information and support for Spanish-speaking families facing the challenges of raising a child with special needs. Andrea understands the unique challenges that Latino families face when navigating the complex world of special needs.

Andrea Amosson is a Chilean author and journalist who has resided in Texas since 2011 with her husband and two children. The author has distinguished herself not only through her literary work but also through her dedication as a mother of children with special needs. For three years, she worked as a regional coordinator for Latino families in the Dallas, Texas, area, playing a crucial role in educating and supporting parents of children with disabilities. She continues to volunteer for the same organization, Partners Resource Network.

As an immigrant with English as a second language, Andrea has leveraged her personal experience to guide other Latino/Hispanic families in understanding and applying the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), ensuring that their children receive the necessary educational support. Her commitment as a mother and advocate for the rights of Latino and Hispanic families with children with disabilities has enriched both her life and her literary work, providing a unique and deeply human perspective.

Andrea Amosson connects with her audience in her native Spanish through a deeply personal and empathetic approach, combining simplicity and warmth in her interactions. Her empathy and understanding of the daily struggles faced by families with children with disabilities allow her to establish close and trusting relationships with those she advises. At the same time, Andrea provides precise tools and knowledge, based on her own experience and deep understanding of the IDEA. This blend of emotional connection and practical support makes her an invaluable guide for many families navigating similar challenges.

These pictures are from the time Andrea Amosson worked for PRN, organizing various educational and leisure events for Latino/Hispanic families.

The book cover is from her Easy Guide, a guide to SPED in Spanish.
